The Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi, responded in today's plenary session to MP Fatmir Mediu, who requested an urgent meeting of the National Security Council one day after the announcement by the US embassy that Iran could target our country.
Peleshi called on him to be more careful with his statements and not spread panic among the public.
"I make a very serious appeal to you, as an experienced politician, to rise to the level of responsibility for the words you say, because they have consequences in the public, because what is said by an MP is taken seriously and can cause panic even though it may be a baseless statement. We should consult such serious appeals in non-public conversations, because the people think that you have thought about it for a long time, they do not know that it is often created for politics", said Peleshi.
The US Embassy in Tirana has sounded the alarm that groups linked to Iran may target entities linked to the United States, or elements of the Iranian opposition in Albania.
According to the US embassy announcement, common places such as tourist areas, shopping malls, hotels, clubs and restaurants could also be targeted.
The Embassy urges American citizens to exercise increased vigilance and follow developments through local media.
The announcement by the US embassy in Tirana comes a few hours after President Trump announced the withdrawal from Iran if the Strait of Hormuz is opened.
