The Complaints and Sanctions Commission (KAS), meeting this evening, has rejected Gjergj Nika's request to register as an independent candidate for the Municipality of Vlora.
According to KAS, even though Nika holds the mandate of municipal councilor, he should have registered an Initiative Committee, in accordance with the legal requirements for candidates proposed by voters.
We recall that Nika requested to participate in the local elections of November 9, but was not registered by the Head of the Central Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi. The latter emphasized that Nika should have been proposed by an Initiative Committee and had followed the legal procedure for registration. After this decision, Gjergj Nika filed an appeal, which was reviewed by the KAS during today's meeting, but his request was rejected.
"Today, the Complaints and Sanctions Commission reviewed complaint request no. 60, dated 26.10.2025, filed by Mr. Gjergji Nikë Nika, candidate for Mayor, proposed by the voters, in the electoral zone of Vlora Municipality with the subject: “????????????????????????̈???????ℎ??????????????? ???? ??? 1437, ???????????????? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
At the end of the review, the KAS decided to reject the appeal and leave in force the decision of the State Election Commissioner with no. 1437/2025 ", the KAS decision stated.
Through a reaction on the social network "Facebook", Nika stated that the KAS decision is politically motivated, accusing the institution of a lack of impartiality in the electoral process.
"The decisions of the KAS seem to be influenced by the political line guiding the electoral process. Independence has been seriously questioned. The battle continues in the Electoral College ," Nika wrote on Facebook.
