"Germany is hindering us"/ What Rama told MPs behind closed doors
SP group meeting

After the cameras were turned off in the hall of the Brigades Palace, where the Socialist Party parliamentary group meeting took place today, the conversation with the deputies eased and Rama spoke about the latest political developments in the country.

But before talking about the changes in the government and the issues that are advancing in SPAK, the discussion in the hall took another unusual turn regarding the pressure coming from the EU. A source at the meeting told Lapsi.al that the prime minister was reserved, but he expressed concern about Germany's approach to the ruling majority.

Rama is reported to have told MPs that the German government is currently making several moves against Albania's interests. In particular, the source told Lapsi.al, Rama spoke about the German Foreign Minister, who, according to the prime minister, has influenced SPAK's instigation to investigate two issues, that of the AKSHI and now the investigation of the Porto Romano tender in Durrës.

"They are exploiting our weaknesses to hinder us," Edi Rama is reported to have said at the meeting, focusing on Germany's influence on the judicial system.

German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul was in Tirana in November last year and in addition to Elisa Spiropali, he also met with the head of SPAK, Altin Duman. Asked about Albania's efforts in the fight against corruption, Wadephul said, "In my opinion, SPAK is doing a really excellent job and in this regard I had the opportunity to be convinced once again through the conversation I had with the head of this structure, where I found that this prosecutorial structure receives considerable support from the government."

The AKSHI file centers on Ergys Agasin, one of the prime minister's closest associates, a person whom former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj described as the prime minister's "crime coordinator."

Agasi is wanted for illegally obtaining tens of millions of euros in AKSHI tenders, while SPAK investigations revealed the hostage-taking of businessman Gerond Çela, who had complained about manipulations with the tender competition.

Meanwhile, it is still unclear whether there is an investigation into the Porto Romano tender in Durres, where some of the largest European Union companies in this field were disqualified. World-renowned consortiums participated in the tender but were disqualified for ridiculous reasons, ignoring the interest of European governments.

The only one left in the race is the "Archiridon.." consortium, an offshore company registered in Cyprus, whose traces lead to the United Arab Emirates./ Lapsi.al
