The Electoral College has accepted the DP's lawsuit request for the members of KEZAZ in Kukës.
With this acceptance, the way is opened for the fact that DP has the right to propose 2 members to KZAZ for the local elections in Kukës, while 1 member is the Freedom Party.
With this decision, Basha won against Ilir Meta, who is in alliance with Sali Berisha.
The Electoral College annulled the decision of the State Election Commissioner and that of KAS.
However, the official PD will not have its candidate in the elections that will be repeated on September 24 in Kukës, but only 2 members in KEZAZ.
Chief Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi had decided another division. More specifically, the Socialist Party would propose three members of KZAZ, two would be proposed by the Freedom Party and one by the Democratic Party.
KAS had given the right to Celibash, thus overturning the DP's complaint. However, the Electoral College overthrew the CEC and KAS, accepting the DP's request.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party, led by Lulzim Basha, will not have a candidate for the September 24 elections in Kukës. Only Emri Vata from the coalition "Bashke Fitomje" and Albert Halilaj from the Socialist Party are in the race.
The reason for not participating in the September electoral race, the official DP makes the insufficient time available as well as "the consequences of the spirit of conflict between the Democrats."
For the DP, this is the time for the members to focus on re-establishing the Party branch and "creating the alternative that the citizens of Kukes are waiting for to overthrow the government."
Since the 2021 elections, the PD has split into two groups and in the local elections, the grouping of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha entered the alliance with the party of former Prime Minister Ilir Meta under the banner of "Together We Win".
The rest, which continue to carry the party's logo and seal legally, entered the race only by significantly losing the electorate compared to the last parliamentary elections.
The DP asked the KAS to recognize this party as the main party of the parliamentary opposition, based on the number of votes won at the national level for the local councils in the elections of May 14, disputing the way of calculating the votes for the constituent parties of the "BF" coalition. ".
Early elections are held to replace the sacked mayor of Kukës, Safet Gjici, just a few weeks after he was re-elected for a second term under the banner of the Socialist Party.
His dismissal from the Council of Ministers came shortly after a video of him having sex with a woman in the office circulated online in early June. He was arrested a few days later for "passive corruption".
