At today's meeting of the Conference of Speakers, the Democratic Party requested the removal of the draft law on Gender Equality from the Assembly's work program, considering it an initiative with high public and social sensitivity.
The Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party, Luciano Boçi, stated that the law in question directly affects the traditional values of the Albanian family and that its adoption in its current form would be hasty and one-sided.
He stressed that there is great interest from various interest groups, including civil society organizations and religious communities, which according to him are against the current content of the law and seek to be included in broader public consultations.
"This law should be removed from the Assembly's work program, as it is a law of high public sensitivity and that, in essence, violates the family. We must give time to the debate, as, as we are aware, there is a great interest from various interest groups, including religious communities, to be involved in consultations and debate. These groups and communities are against it", said MP Luçiano Boçi.
