In a reaction published on social networks, the women's representatives of the EPP express support for Albana Vokshi, who also holds the position of vice president in this European political family.
According to the reaction, during a plenary session in the Assembly, Taulant Balla referred to the MP by saying that her number is "0900", an allusion to a telephone line with sexual content.
The EPP considers this statement to be unacceptable language in democratic institutions and notes that the incident was not addressed during the parliamentary session.
“We, the women of the EPP, strongly condemn the sexist verbal attack by Socialist President Taulant Balla, directed at our Vice President Albana Vokshi, during the last plenary session of the Parliament of Albania, where he suggested that her number is “0900” – a reference to a sex hotline!
Sexist comments and personal humiliation have no place in democratic institutions. The failure to address this incident during the session is unacceptable.
We stand in full solidarity with our Vice President and call on all political actors, especially those in the governing majority, to refrain from language and behavior that violate the dignity and rights of women.
"Respect and zero tolerance for sexism must guide our political institutions," the EPP statement reads.
