The European Union Delegation in Tirana has reacted after the assumption of office by Prime Minister Edi Rama and all the new ministers, congratulating them on the start of this new governing cycle.
In a reaction on social media, the EU emphasized the commitment to necessary reforms and transparent and inclusive processes as key to achieving common goals for Albania.
With this reaction, the EU reminds the "Rama 4" government that the opposition must have its role in this process and not be excluded from discussions as happened in the plenary session where the 4th mandate program was approved within 25 minutes in the Assembly with the cardboard strength that the Socialist Party has at its disposal.
"Congratulations to Prime Minister Edi Rama and all ministers on taking office. With a sustained effort to adopt and implement the necessary reforms through transparent and inclusive processes, Albania can achieve the ambitious objective of closing EU membership negotiations by the end of 2027," the EU's response reads.
The European Union representatives stressed that they are ready to cooperate with all Albanian parties to achieve this important objective, which represents a historic moment for the country and the Albanian citizens. According to the EU, this joint commitment is necessary to ensure a sustainable and successful path towards EU membership.
In this key period, the EU continues to support Albania in its efforts to implement reforms and consolidate democracy, the rule of law and economic development.
This reaction by the European Union follows a long period of cooperation and support for Albania and the Rama government, whose main objective this term is progress on its path towards European integration.
Prime Minister Edi Rama and his cabinet of 16 ministers were sworn in on September 19 before the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj. The oath-taking officially begins the government's work to fulfill the objectives set out in its program over the next 4 years.
The last to arrive at the Presidency was Prime Minister Edi Rama, who after the anthem, was the first to take the oath, followed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Elisa Spiropali, Minister of Internal Affairs Albana Koçiu and all the other ministers in turn.
After the swearing-in ceremony and family photo on the steps of the Presidency with Head of State Bajram Begaj, they walked towards the Prime Minister's Office where the second family photo of the government was taken.
After this, the government continued behind closed doors, with its first meeting.
The implementation of the Rama 4 government program consists of a series of objectives that begin with increasing salaries and pensions and end with EU membership in 2030.
The oath-taking took place one day after the approval of the program and composition of the government in the Assembly, an approval that was made in a hurry due to the tensions that arose after the "Sun" speech in the Assembly.
The program was approved with 82 votes of the majority and without the participation of the opposition. The Democratic Party sent a letter yesterday to the Assembly requesting a repetition of the plenary session during which the governing program was approved. According to the Democratic Party, the fact that Diella gave a speech in the Assembly was contrary to the law and a provocation for the opposition. This request would not be accepted, thus paving the way for the swearing-in of the Presidency.
