Dumani's wedding in the USA, the death of politics in Tirana...
Altin Dumani's visit to the US has been the focus of media discussion for 48 hours, but we still do not have any official information to refer to the SPAK leader's visit to the State Department.
At the beginning of the dinner show season, we had sensational statements last night, at 9:00 PM in Tirana, while in Washington, it was still 3:00 PM.
Dumani was received at the Balkans office at the State Department, in the completely informal zone. Which means outside of official hours, which is a clear protocol signal. Which means that we have entered the period where meetings are held for tea, for coffee, or for a pointless discussion, in general.
The truth is quite different. Altin Dumani was in the US as a wedding guest, after he had a wedding for one of his nieces. The joyful and happy photos of the family joy were shared on wedding networks, as is natural.
So the logic of a mysterious agenda was less dramatic. Altin Dumani, as learned from diplomatic channels, when he announced the reason for the visit, because he is a public figure who also benefits from an official escort, informed the American authorities.
Who, quite naturally, have taken advantage of this opportunity for the newest official at the State Department, in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Brendan Hanrahan, to meet one of the most important officials in Albania, the head of SPAK.
An opportunity, of course, for an exchange of views, for discussions on the SPAK institution, which the US has supported over the years.
Diplomatic sources have announced that in the absence of official information on the meeting, a possible agenda of open-ended discussions can be logically analyzed. Which could be a 'briefing' for SPAK, the problem of the funding it has received from the US over the years and what the future of this aid will be, but also another issue.
Altin Dumani, in these three years at the head of SPAK, also has considerable public popularity, as a result of strong acts against senior officials and politicians. And in this logic, the inevitable question in these cases is not excluded: What do you intend to do with your popularity?
A question that can naturally be asked by any partner official seeking to gain insight into the developments of an allied country. That is, whether Dumani will continue to be a prosecutor working on someone else's orders, or has he decided to use his popularity for a political career.
A dilemma that has been circulating in the country for a long time, precisely as a result of this important development. Because in a way we had a framework created by the political elite to give the special prosecution the popularity that this elite needed to use for its own purposes. What then? All this is a free-flowing discussion, because after all, the head of SPAK cannot be a superman, he is a leader of prosecutors who conduct criminal investigations, which they will have to win in court.
The State Department official's curiosity about what will happen after November, when Duman's term ends, is likely to be closed with a question, since so far we have not seen a political will from either the US or the EU to grant a second term. For which the Constitution would have to be amended.
So in the end, there was a normal meeting with a high official that took place in Washington, also as a wedding. Who was received late at dinner, for an informal aperitif. So the whole media cruelty of the dinner was more of a psychic torrent, which is not surprising to be politically oriented.
