Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted harshly to the decision to suspend the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, describing it as direct interference by the judiciary in the executive branch.
Speaking at the meeting of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Rama declared that the socialist government gave real independence to the justice system, but stressed that this independence should not turn into an infringement on other powers.
He spoke of unjustified interference by the judiciary in the affairs of the executive and legislative branches, warning that the balance between the three branches of government risks being disrupted. Rama said that today the danger does not come from politics towards justice, but from the judiciary exceeding its powers. According to him, some prosecutors and judges are behaving irresponsibly, undermining the normal functioning of institutions.
"For unjustifiable but also unnecessary interference of the judiciary in the affairs of the executive and the legislative together. The state has three branches of government independent of each other and if one of them interferes in the affairs of the other, the progress is no longer valid. We believe that when the democratic Constitution of the Republic of Albania and all the constitutions of Europe say that there are 3 independent branches of government, they cannot be on paper as they could be before we did everything we have done. This party entered the sea with its feet and after 100 or so years of Albanian statehood, we gave real independence to the judicial branch.
I never regret this, regardless of the homemade bombs that are being hatched by prosecutors and judges up and down in Albania, whose taste of real independence intoxicates them, clouds their reason, darkens their eyes, and sends them in directions that violate the independence of other powers, making them minimally violators of human rights freedoms. Today, the danger of the crossroads is not that the executive or the legislative will violate the independence of the judiciary, but that they will cripple the independence of the other two in order to function, and this has happened. This cannot happen in this country. Because this country that is on the rise does not have the luxury of being restrained and not returning to where it was. What is the suspension of a minister with a decision of a preliminary hearing without a trial, unprecedented in the history of the world, except for brutal intervention," said Rama.
