The Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee on Media and Human Rights, Jorida Tabaku, has reacted harshly to the violence exerted by the police against peaceful protesters in front of the Prime Minister's Office, describing it as an unacceptable act and in flagrant violation of European democratic standards.

In a public post, Tabaku emphasizes that protest is a constitutional right and not a crime, while the citizens who have been peacefully protesting for days have not threatened or violated anyone, but have exercised a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution.

According to her, the government's violent reaction to citizens shows fear of the people's voice and a misuse of state force to silence the protest.

"In Europe, the police protect the protest, they are not used to beat peaceful citizens. What is happening is not a European standard," Tabaku underlines.

Five people, including two police officers and the leader of the Albania Becomes Movement, Adriatik Lapaj, were injured after a clash between protesters and security forces the night before at the Prime Minister's Office.

The University Trauma Hospital announced that 5 people, two of whom were State Police officers, presented themselves yesterday evening. One of them has left the hospital while the other remains hospitalized under the care of doctors.

"Mr. Adriatik Lapaj, after the examinations carried out, is out of danger to his life but continues to be in the hospital under the care of the medical team.

"Also, two protesters have presented themselves for medical assistance at the hospital, who are also out of danger and have left the hospital premises after receiving medical assistance," the hospital announced.
