The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, starts her four-day trip to the Western Balkans today in Tirana.
She will meet with the leaders of Albania, North Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo and Montenegro.
"This will be the occasion to discuss the progress of our Western Balkan partners on the road to the EU, as well as the Growth Plan of 6 billion euros of the EU" , states the official website of the European Commission.
The President will first visit Tirana today, where she will meet with the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama. Von der Leyen will also deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the academic year of the College of Europe in Tirana. On Thursday morning, she will pay a visit to President Bajram Begaj.
During all her visits, the president will hold press conferences. The press conference with Prime Minister Rama is scheduled at 16:10, while the opening ceremony of the College of Europe will be around 17:00.
He will then travel to Skopje, where he will meet the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, and the President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova.
Later in the day, President Von der Leyen will travel to Jablanica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, to visit areas affected by the floods that recently hit the country. On Friday morning, she will be in Sarajevo, where she will meet with the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well as with the head of the Council of Ministers, Borjana Krišto.
Then the President of the EC will travel to Belgrade. There she will meet with the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić and the prime minister, Miloš Vučević.
On Saturday, President von der Leyen will be in Pristina, where she will meet with the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani and the Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.
She will end her trip to the region in Podgorica, where she will have meetings with the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović and the Prime Minister, Milojko Spajić.
This year's visit comes after last year's and several occasions in which the President emphasized the importance of the region for the European Union. It did so recently, at the Berlin Process Summit and the Bled Strategic Forum.
