Former Prime Minister Berisha has made strong accusations against the government, criticizing it for its policies towards farmers and the economic situation in the country.
During his speech, Berisha questioned the majority's commitment to citizens' problems.
"What kind of session are you holding about the problems of the citizens, when he said: 'We will take the dirt roads, because you steal'. How can you talk about the problems of the people and also organize a session?!", said Berisha.
He stressed that government decisions have worsened the situation of farmers, especially at a time of rising energy prices.
"How can you speak when you are the only government in Europe that, at the peak of oil and gas prices, removes oil subsidies from farmers?! Is there greater cynicism than this? Is there a more irresponsible act?" he declared.
According to Berisha, these policies risk not only the bankruptcy of the agricultural sector, but also the departure of farmers abroad.
"This is a policy of not only bankrupting farmers, but also of driving them away. You steal, and they take the dirt roads. Ireland, Australia, Alaska, the most remote places," he said.
The leading democrat compared the situation in Albania with other countries in the region and Europe, claiming that Albanian farmers are treated worse.
"How is it possible that at the peak of the oil price hike, you tell them that you also removed oil subsidies, a subsidy that all surrounding countries have?! Macedonia sells it for 1,500 at the pump, but gives it to farmers for a price of 1,000. Likewise, every European country ," Berisha said.
He also accused the government of mismanaging European Union funds for agriculture.
"These other farmers receive hundreds of millions in taxes, while you stole all the IPARD money. The only ones in the region who do not receive from IPARD ," Berisha declared.
