The head of the Democratic Party parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, demanded an account from the Assembly for the absence of Prime Minister Edi Rama during the session where the draft resolution on European integration is expected to be discussed.
From the Parliament's rostrum, Bardhi said that a process of strategic importance such as integration into the European Union cannot be handled without the presence of the Prime Minister, who according to him has the constitutional obligation to be accountable to the MPs.
He emphasized that Albania also has a state minister responsible for negotiations with the European Union, but according to him, Rama's absence from such a debate remains unjustifiable.
Bardhi further accused the head of government of rarely appearing in Parliament, calling him a "cardboard prime minister".
"The Council of Ministers' reporting on integration is part of the accountability that the government gives to the Assembly. It is the Prime Minister who, according to the Constitution, represents the Council of Ministers. It should have been the Prime Minister in the session to inform the Assembly. Even more so, since we have a state minister responsible for negotiations with the EU. Each one is responsible according to the responsibilities they have before the Assembly of Albania. It cannot happen that we discuss a process that we have called a nationwide strategic priority and we do not have the Prime Minister present. It does not happen in any country in the world that the Prime Minister comes to the Assembly only 2 times to vote. He is a cardboard Prime Minister. He only comes when the relevant number of votes in the Assembly is needed", said Bardhi.
