The behind-the-scenes of the incident at CEAZ 30, where an observer of Ornaldo Rakipi punched the CEAZ Secretary, are revealed.
The incident occurred at the very moment when it was becoming clear that Ornaldo Rakipi was losing his mandate as a deputy in Tirana. With 6,988 preferential votes, Rakipi has fallen behind Xhemal Qefalia, who has collected 7,209 votes so far. The cause of the fight was an invalid vote and it seems that now the race is being held for every vote.
Even though Rakipi has more votes than Anila Denaj or Blerina Gjylameti, both SP women receive mandates on a gender basis and Rakipi is eliminated.
As a result, the Central Election Commission immediately intervened by revoking all the accreditations of observers of CEAZ no. 30 and suspending the counting process in this unit. The official decision signed by Ilirjan Celibashi makes it clear that only one observer per subject will be allowed at each counting table, attempting to restore order in one of the most hotly contested areas in Tirana.
