Here are the 140 new MPs, while the diaspora vote is also awaited...
The parliamentary elections of May 11 have brought a new political landscape to Albania, with a new composition of the Assembly that reflects recent changes in the electoral system.
So far, the Socialist Party has secured 83 mandates, maintaining its majority, while the Democratic Party and its allies have reached 50 mandates. Meanwhile, new parties such as the Social Democratic Party, the Opportunity Party, the Together Movement and the Albania Becomes Initiative have managed to win between one and three mandates, bringing a new spirit to Albanian politics.
In Tirana, where 982 out of 1,282 ballot boxes were counted, the SP secured 18 seats, the DP 13, while the Opportunity Party and Albania Becomes each received one seat. Preferential votes played an important role in determining the winners within the parties. For example, Blendi Gonxhja of the SP received 17,786 votes, ranking first on the Socialist list in the capital.
In other districts, such as Durrës and Fier, the race was close. In Durrës, the SP won 8 seats and the DP 6, while in Fier, the SP won 12 seats and the DP 4. Diaspora votes are expected to be decisive in these districts, as they could influence the final distribution of seats.
The counting of diaspora votes is still in progress. So far, over 125,000 envelopes out of a total of 194,889 have been counted. The SP leads with 67,061 votes (54.07%), followed by the DP-ASHM with 34,953 votes (28.22%). New parties such as Nisma Shqipëria Bëhet and Partia Mundësia have received 10,315 and 4,671 votes respectively.
These results indicate a significant shift in the Albanian political landscape, with an increase in the influence of new parties and a greater involvement of the diaspora in the electoral process. The remaining diaspora votes are expected to be decisive in determining the final composition of the new Assembly.
