The Democratic Party primaries to be held on March 1st look like a process to 'prune' the current parliamentary group of this party, not through dismissals and expulsions, but through self-exclusion.
This happened a day ago with Helidon Bushati, the MP for Shkodra, who announced his non-participation in the primaries, although he did not spare praise for the leader of the DP, Sali Berisha. Following him was Ferdinand Xhaferri, the MP for the Durrës District, who opposed this primaries process and accused Berisha of not serving the Democrats with his agenda.
And while there are 10 days left until the members will vote on the lists of candidates divided by districts, Petrit Doda, MP for Tirana, Eralda Bano of Fier District, Emilia Koliqi of Fier District have also announced their withdrawal from the primary race. It is also reported that Oriela Nebiaj, MP for Tirana District, will not enter the primary either.
And while there is a withdrawal of some of the members of the current parliamentary group, it seems that Berisha's 'loyalists', as well as the political leaders of the regions, have secured places on the closed lists. And perhaps this could be the reason why we have a withdrawal from the primaries of deputies or other figures in this party.
