The Democratic Party and its allies are holding their first national protest against the Rama Government on Monday afternoon, several months after the opposition's defeat in the May 11 parliamentary elections.
All MPs have been engaged in this protest, with the clear aim of a massive protest on the "Martyrs of the Nation" Boulevard. The police are expected to deploy around 1,300 police forces, while the opposition has not yet released details regarding how the protest will take place.
The Prime Minister's Office building has been armored since Sunday, securing the doors and institutions. So what is expected from today's protest?
The Democratic MP for Lezha, Gjin Gjoni, who joined politics after being excluded from the justice system for 15 years due to Vetting, warns of acts of violence. In a statement for the "Terminal" show on A2Cnn, Gjoni said that the popular dissatisfaction is very great and stressed that "if you leave it to the citizens, you can be sure that they are in favor of very aggressive actions" in the opposition protest.
"The dissatisfaction is very great and if you leave it to the citizens, you can be sure that they are in favor of very aggressive actions and say we are ready to take any possible action just to overthrow this government once and for all."
"But, the Democratic Party is a party that comes to power through votes and we do not want, through our protest, to incite violence and acts that tomorrow or the day after tomorrow will negatively affect Albania, which is a candidate and has opened chapters for the European Union," said the Democratic MP.
He stated that a balance must be struck, and this fragile balance between successive actions and keeping in some kind of restraint all the people who come to protest and have an extraordinary anger.
"Their dilemma is, don't call us to protest by walking on the boulevard, but is the Democratic Party ready to take on an action that could go beyond a peaceful protest? This has its own questions. The Democratic Party does not support acts of violence," Gjoni added.
