The Socialist Party seems determined to bring under control the bodies of justice, headed by the Special Prosecutor's Office. A few weeks ago it was the leader Eduard Shalsi, who declared that the establishment of a working group was being considered in order to increase the controlling role of the Assembly.
There was even talk behind the scenes about the creation of an ad hoc commission, which will focus on justice. Shalsi tried to play by saying that the purpose of the Assembly is to control, but Ermonela Felaj, the deputy speaker of the Assembly, was more direct today.
In an interview, she also tried to show that the SP has no plan to capture SPAK, but on the other hand, she openly said that the plan is to increase the control of the Assembly over justice.
" SPAK, GJKKO, all prosecutions and justice bodies are independent bodies. But it does not mean that they are not subject to control. The Assembly of Albania has tasks of its control and supervision, expressed in the regulations.
What has worried us is how the monitoring and supervisory role of the Assembly of Albania can be increased. You witness those routine reports in the Assembly, which take hours but do not bring any great benefit.
This concern was not only of the government, but also of the opposition. In the Parliament of Albania, no substantive debate is created when these institutions report. We will take other steps to strengthen the role of the Assembly in monitoring other bodies. The Assembly cannot be on the periphery of this control, but in the center of monitoring ", said Felaj.
