While we are on the eve of the next anniversary of January 21, the President of Albania at that time, Bamir Topi, recalls the meeting with accredited ambassadors in Tirana the day before the event.
Topi pointed out that this event was abandoned by all parties and that he felt an obligation to return to that event by writing about it.
He added that all those who made up the opposition had declared virulently and had warned how that situation would develop.
"It is a traumatic return to my being, for what Albania and I personally went through on January 21. He was the most dominant of political life. Seeing a kind of abandonment from all sides, I had the obligation to return to this event, this time by writing it, at least those who were directly involved. I have been able to be concise because the book accepts so much. The parties had declared.
All those who made up the opposition had declared virulently and had warned how that situation would develop. No doubt there were also warnings from the government. It came from a corrupt moment from a video. It brought an accumulation of government brutality to oppose the government ," Topi said.
Among other things, Topi said that January 21 has entered the historical calendar as the most traumatic and violent event.
He said that on January 20 he had organized a meeting at the Palace of Brigades where he had appealed to the political forces to reduce tensions and find the courage to dialogue, but no one listened.
"It was January 20, I had organized a meeting with the diplomatic corps at the Palace of Brigades and of course I was very careful, but the information that came was such that I stopped reading it. I have also informed the diplomatic corps. Information was received step by step and the political parties had a kind of exhibition to show themselves with all their virulence. The President of the State, together with the Prime Minister, is the first destination of information under any circumstances. It had reached the point of maximum conflict.
In that meeting with the diplomatic corps, I called on the political forces to reduce tensions and find the courage to dialogue, and as was seen the next day, no one listened. When in the office of the head of state, the meetings are intense at such moments when they herald a riot. In the history of the Albanian transition, January 21 has entered the historical calendar as the most traumatic and violent event. First is the political dimension and second, the legal dimension. The other dimension has to do with what happened in the families of those affected by this kind of tragedy. I also contacted people from the media, as it is a very important mediator, either in the perception of the situation or in the transmission of messages" , he said.
Topi further added that Rama abandoned the protesters on the Boulevard and that this is his direct responsibility. He said that at the moment when the citizens were executed, he condemned the violence and called for justice and calm, but this did not please Berisha, who was prime minister at that time.
"It was a demonstration, which started as peaceful and precipitated as a violent protest. What I did not accept in this protest is the crossing of the limits, that is, extremely violent, and the second thing, which I did not understand, was the abandonment of this protest by the man who should lead this protest politically. Lord Rama became the master of this protest and in the end he let the protestors violate and ran away and in my eyes it was a totally unjustified abandonment of her.
Always a political leader orients the people and within that crowd there are people who administer themselves and the deliberate abandonment is the direct responsibility of Mr. Rama. The situation precipitated dramatically. I had the first communication the night before, the second communication is the moment when citizens were executed, I condemned the violence, I called for justice and calm. Berisha, at that time prime minister, did not like that moment when I talk about the incident on the boulevard, I talk about the murders on the boulevard. I didn't specify that the murder happened in the Prime Minister, the murders happened in the Boulevard" , said Topi in "News24".
