The candidate of the Socialist Party, Vangjel Tavo, has been elected the new mayor of the Himarë Municipality, thus ending the 15-month battle between the majority and the opposition (Athens), which began with the arrest of Fredi Beleri on May 12, 2023.

He has been declared the winner with 58.83% of the votes against Petro Gjikuri, the opposition candidate of the coalition Together We Win' received 41.17%

As for the votes, at the end of the counting it turned out that Vangjel Tavo received a total of 5022 votes, or 1200 votes more than Jorgo Goro in last year's elections.

While Petro Gjikuria received 3545 votes, or 300 votes less than Fredi Beleri.

Meanwhile, the official difference between the two candidates yesterday is 1477 more in favor of the SP candidate.

Vangjel Tavo won with a majority of votes in the Hore-Vranisht Administrative Unit. The socialist candidate received 1165 votes or 89.20% against 141 votes from Gjikuria or 10.80%.

Even in Lukovë, the difference between Tavo and Gjikuria was significant with nearly 700 more votes.

After the victory, Tavo said that during his mandate as president, tourism will be a priority.

He has also offered a hand of cooperation to his opponent Petro Gjikuria to keep the post of vice president.

Vangjel Tavo won with a majority of votes in the Hore-Vranisht Administrative Unit. The socialist candidate received 1165 votes or 89.20% against 141 votes from Gjikuria or 10.80%.

Even in Lukovë, the difference between Tavo and Gjikuria was significant. In the Lukovë Administrative Unit, the last box is being counted, as Vangjel Tavo of the SP leads with 1456 votes, while Petraq Gjikuria counts 877 votes.

In the counting process are the last 8 boxes that belong to the Himarë Administrative Unit, to be known later with the winner of the Municipality for whom the residents voted this Sunday, August 4.

The voting process for the election of the new head of Himara Municipality was closed at 19:00.

The CEC has announced that in the elections for the Mayor of Himar Municipality on August 4, 2024, 8,333 voters voted, or 37.69% of the total of 23,074 voters on the list.

"Reported 34 out of 36 VCs in total", announced the CEC.
