Prime Minister Edi Rama declared from Brussels that Albania is ready to continue on the path towards full membership in the European Union, during his speech at the Intergovernmental Conference.
Rama described the meeting as an important moment for the country's integration process, emphasizing that Albania is entering a new stage of negotiations with the EU.
"It is a very important moment on our path towards membership and a moment for which we have been working hard for a long time and where half of the work for opening negotiations will be closed and the other half for closing will be opened."
"Albania is always ready to move forward without any imagination of momentary satisfaction and we must emphasize that according to the barometer, Albania is one of the most pro-European countries," said the Prime Minister.
The 8th Intergovernmental Conference between Albania and the European Union is taking place in Brussels, which officially paves the way for Albania to move into the final phase of EU membership negotiations.
The conference follows the decision of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU Member States (COREPER), which confirms the fulfillment of the interim objectives in the "Fundamentals" chapter group, and sets the final objectives for Chapter 23, "Judiciary and Fundamental Rights", and Chapter 24, "Justice, Freedom and Security".
We recall that the previous meeting at this level was held in November 2025, when the last group-chapter of negotiations with the EU, "Agriculture and Cohesion", was opened. Which, according to the head of government, was achieved in record time, in just 12 months!
