The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reacted after the first public statement by Ajola Xoxa, the wife of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, after the launch of investigations against them and the imposition of security measures.
In a statement to the media from the blue headquarters, Berisha said that investigations have uncovered a series of companies that benefited from state funds, while emphasizing that large sums of money were found in the safe.
"Only in the safe were found 95 thousand euros and a large amount of lek. Investigations have shown a series of companies that benefited from state funds. The customs invoices that I have published substantiate the figure made public by the prosecution," declared Berisha.
He added that one of the most serious issues in this file is the financing of Xoxa and her family with public money.
"As for the amount that Ajola Xoxa had at her disposal, I can say that 95 thousand euros and a large amount of lek were found in the safe alone. Secondly, the investigations have shown a series of companies that benefited from state funds. I have brought the customs invoices here and they substantiate the figure made public by the prosecution. I think that the most serious acts in that file are the financing of Ajola Xoxa and her family members by her husband, from taxpayers' money," Berisha said.
