The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, declared during a live conversation on social networks that the opposition will propose Albania as a single electoral zone within the framework of the Electoral Reform.
He said that two days ago, at the Intellectuals' Forum, opposition forces signed a document committing to a system where every citizen's vote has the same weight throughout the territory.
"The intellectuals' forum that gathered the political forces two days ago presented a document, which we signed and all opposition political forces committed to Albania being an electoral zone, where the weight of the citizen's vote becomes equal throughout the territory and for every citizen. But, having said this, please once again, let us not forget that absolutely again, with Edi Rama the elections will be a farce and only a farce", said Berisha.
Berisha argued that changes to the Electoral Code do not guarantee free elections if the government influences the process.
"It is extremely important that every citizen understands that elections with Edi Rama are just an illusion. Whatever the system, whatever the change, Albanians with Edi Rama will never vote freely. And whoever wants to vote and have their vote have the weight it deserves, must, with courage, bravery and determination, commit to removing Edi Rama," he declared.
In his speech, the leader of the DP listed several situations that, according to him, affect the electoral process, mentioning the organization of activities during the electoral period, the forgiveness of fines and interest shortly before the elections, the distribution of money to pensioners, and the involvement of the administration in the campaign.
In conclusion, he emphasized that the electoral system is important, but he considered the way the process is organized by the government to be more decisive.
