Prime Minister Edi Rama will not participate in the EU Enlargement Summit.
The Prime Minister's Office previously announced Rama's trip to Brussels, but now it has been announced that the trip has been canceled and the head of government will not be part of the "EU Enlargement Summit" panel. The reasons are still unknown.
Rama, along with the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajic, and the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, were expected to discuss the progress of the English language and the challenges of the integration process.
The summit brings together leaders of foreign members and candidates of the EU to discuss the future of the European integration process.
This meeting aims to amplify the voices of candidate countries at a time when European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has restarted the process, rebranding enlargement as "European reunification."
The summit will provide a first-of-its-kind platform for leaders of candidate countries to express their perspectives on the path of enlargement, from the determination of Ukraine and Moldova amid the ongoing war in Ukraine to the decades-long wait for membership of the Western Balkans, with each leader bringing their own insights into how enlargement is perceived from their nation's perspective and what the path ahead will bring.
