A study published these days, conducted by the American Republican Institute, has concluded with a not at all beautiful result for Albania. Where, more than 100 years after the uprising of Haxhi Qamili, it is considered a pro-Turkish state.
In the survey, Albania, like Bosnia, considers Recep Tayyip Erdogan as the most beloved leader in the country.
Scary; 71% of Albanians consider Erdogan as the most popular leader, while US President Joe Biden ranks second with 64% popularity.
Bosnia, which is a country where Ottoman heritage is central to identity, has a lower quota for the Sultan of Ankara. 61% of Bosnians think that Erdogan is their favorite world leader.
Meanwhile, in Kosovo, the most popular leader is US President Joe Biden with 85% of support.
So Albin Kurti's Kosovo is much more western than Edi Rama's Albania.
Who consciously, but also out of interest, turned Albania into the area of influence of Turkey, the most critical in the Balkans. But this influence is not at all real, natural or part of a direct feeling of the citizens.
But it is injected with money and political actions from Ankara.
Today it is more clear why the money from the earthquake, the pandemic or even the regional hospital of Fier has arrived. To make Albania a pro-Turkish country in the full sense of the word. All this money that circulates in Albania from the port of Durrës or even in construction goes to Ankara, stopping in the organizations of Erdoğan's congregation, who today has a real party in Albania, which keeps Edi Rama in power.
Rama says he is a Catholic, but when he goes to Dollmabahçe he kisses the hand of the sultan who calls him "Majesty" with a twinkle in his eye, as it is a mechanism of the Turkish clock.
Of course, this alliance of Rama with Turkey is not entirely wrong. Ankara has a real opportunity to help Albania against Greece, for example. But this alliance; first, it is not transparent and with a consensual approval in place, and second, it has an ugly 'tail' at the back.
That even the USA today is a great ally of Albania, but Washington never forces Albanians to love America. Even in Tirana, US politicians and governors are criticized more than our thieves. Because America is a democracy, but even culturally it does not consider its life without criticizing governments.
Dare to insult Erdogan today. Put the sultan's henchmen on your back in social networks and leave nothing unsaid. This is exactly the ugly logic of this alliance, where Turkey, with a strategic concept, has invested in terrible institutions and organizations in Albania.
Check out the girls' madrasa in Shkodër, the cradle of Albanian culture. There are girls from the best families of the city, veiled. Is this a will of the families? It seems that there is no such will, but more opportunities to benefit from education and connection with Turkish universities. Many of the girls who graduate from the Shkodra madrasa do not continue their lives covered, but Turkey is interested in such propaganda. And it is precisely this environment that has turned Albania into a Bosnia. Meanwhile, in Zog's time, at least Shkodra, considered itself Florence. This is not a joke at all, because with the injection of money, we can come back worse than Bosnia, a fragile country that will also be accepted into the EU.
