The lie was the majority's first reaction to the opposition's demands for a parliamentary investigation. The investigative commissions that were requested were related to issues sensitive to public opinion, such as the contract with Arab Alabaar for the constructions in Durrës, such as the investigation into the costs of Edi Rama's charter trips, such as the occult relationship that the prime minister built with the former head of the FBI- of, Charles McGonigal, etc.
At first, the Socialists claimed that parliamentary investigations could undermine SPAK investigations, an argument that was dismissed by the head of the institution, Altin Dumani. On the contrary, according to him, SPAK prosecutors followed the work of the parliamentary committees with attention.
Therefore, when the opposition intensified the protests, when the parliamentary sessions became impossible to manage, there was no justification left. the solution was neither tolerance nor negotiation for parliamentary committees. On the contrary, the socialists led by Rama have increased the oppression of the opposition.
This is being done by changing the law on investigative commissions and by changing the regulation of the assembly.
The new rules for the assembly were changed for the first time without consensus with the opposition. In it, the punishments for protesting MPs have been toughened.
Exemptions for opposition MPs will go up to 30 days or 60 days depending on how the protest is done.
When the deputy uses physical violence against guards or colleagues and when he damages furniture and equipment in the assembly, he will be punished with 30 days of suspension.
If the deputy explodes flares or throws paint and other materials, actions that can be foreseen by the Penal Code, the penalty is 60 days of exclusion.
Practically, the new regulation puts an end to the opposition protest.
On the other hand, the Law Commission approved today the changes in the law on investigative commissions. "Concerned" that the parliament could be charged with investigations on useless issues, the socialist deputies recalled the "Veshi" commission, an investigative commission that was set up based on an incident in which Edi Rama participated when he was in the opposition.
In the draft that the socialists passed, the "certain issues" for which an investigative commission can be set up are more clearly defined. But the notions in the law leave room for interpretation. The opposition proposals are destined to fail. Interesting in the proposal was the caution of the SP deputies, that the parliamentary investigation does not violate "social morals".
It is understood that the legal changes are being made to end the opposition protest. In recent months, parliamentary sessions do not last more than 15 minutes. Scandal was the session when the budget for 2024 was voted on. In a situation of chaos, under the smoke of the flares, the deputies did not understand anything about what they voted for. In one of the sessions in the parliament, a chair of the assembly caught fire. The images were broadcast by the most important international media, which reported on the demands of the opposition. The image that Rama has raised among foreigners as a modern leader was damaged, so in order not to have further consequences, the prime minister has decided to suppress the opposition protest with the force of the rules that he writes and approves himself. / Lapsi.al
