Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa reacted in Parliament regarding the poisoning of students at the Security Academy, raising concerns about the way in which the winning companies of food tenders are selected.
During her speech, Zhupa accused the lack of standards and controls for food safety, while saying that citizens are paying not only high prices for food, but also serious health consequences.
"It is not an event to ignore and not reflect on and understand how uncertain life is. We are living in a country where the winners of food tenders are selected, not based on standards but on recognition, the highest offer, the next bribe. There were no real controls over the company that fed Albanian students, there were no standards with which it would have to compete and win to guarantee food. What controls do we have for food safety? We pay the highest food prices in the region, we also pay poison, we pay for food that is uncontrolled, food that poisons our children, our students, the one who benefits from that tender, are connected to the government, clients of power and there is no need to know whether they have standards or not," said Zhupa.
