Braçe 'clash' with Berisha: Why doesn't he speak about the
Erion Brace

Socialist Party MP Erion Braçe commented in Parliament on the situation of fuel prices in the country, arguing that their increase is directly related to international developments and not to the policies of the Albanian government.

During parliamentary discussions, Brace emphasized that the war in one of the main hydrocarbon producing regions has affected global markets and, according to him, this has led to an increase in prices in Albania as well.

During his speech, Braça had a direct clash with the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, whom he accused of the policies pursued over the years in the fuel sector.

"This normative act that we have before us is a good opportunity to discuss the issues related to prices. Let's say it clearly, because it is in the light of day. Fuel prices are related to the war situation in a certain region of the world, which is one of the most hydrocarbon-producing regions in the world. The prices did not come because of a government, but because of a situation in a certain region of the world. The act that we have before us, although welcome, has had no impact. So far, since the beginning of the war, the act has been used from April 3-8 and from April 8-9. So many days. The effect has been 37 million lek. The one that has had the most significant impact has been the Transparency Board, which has done a commendable job. Yesterday the price was 206 lek for standard oil and today it is 196 lek. What I have as a reservation in relation to the Board so far is directly related to the transparency of hydrocarbons in this country. When I talk about the market model, I mean what has been imposed on all of us as consumers in this country.

The market model keeps prices high, because of this market model, we have the net price. Our net price without taxes continues to remain the most expensive in the region. Here, after we have removed taxes, what decides is the market model, costs, logistics and of course profit margins. I made a calculation and I repeat that it refers to March 16, the net price of oil in Albania was 0.984 euros/liter.

What surprises me is that the difference goes to 40%, the net price without taxes. No one talks and does not dare to talk about the market model in this room, everyone talks about the tax model. We have a value added tax, which was also in your time. We have an excise tax, while the excise tax in your time was a percentage of the price of oil. Even with the insistence of the operators, you brought the excise tax with a fixed rate, as we still have today. You brought the turnover tax.

Who is abusing? (To Berisha) Come here and speak, show me that you are protecting the interests of the merchants. Come on, speak up. You have never caught them here in the hall.

You brought the model. If you had it at 7 lekë, it is our choice that we have raised it to 27 lekë. That price of 7 lekë is not the same for those who consume little fuel as for those who consume a lot. With these low tariffs that you have, you have always favored those large consumers.

"Don't mention that yacht to me, because I voted against it the whole time," said Brace.
