Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his speech at the Socialist Party Assembly, spoke about Albania's European integration. He stated that Albania is in an unprecedented situation, where, according to him, for the first time in history, the country has the concrete support of major powers to become part of the European Union.
But according to him, this is a door that does not stay open forever and he warned that missing this moment would have long-term consequences for the country.
Speaking about the obstacles to this process, Rama blamed the opposition. He said that it does not happen in any country in the world that the opposition attempts to disrupt the EU membership process.
"I think that the greatest potential, I mean seriously untapped, is women, because 33% of women are very few. I want to tell you that it is, I believe, very important for each of us that I consider every assembly the leading orchestra of every territory and the leading force of every territory. So for me it is very important that at least every head of organization be aware of some things that are beyond the personal and beyond the community, but that are for everyone. Why am I saying this? Because I want you all to be very mindful of the times we live in today. It is the first time, if you find another time those who are passionate about history, tell me too, but it is the first time that luck smiles on Albanians. Because it is the first time that Albanians have all the great powers with them in a concrete sense, not in words, because we have never had such a concrete opportunity to finally become part of the European club.
What must be clear is that it is not a door that is open forever, it is a door that can be closed and this is a moment that cannot be missed for any reason in the world. It is something unimaginable. It has not been done and friends in Europe tell me time and time again we have never seen, we have never seen in any country and with any country what we see with you, that some of your people come and leave nothing unsaid so that this process does not happen. There is not, none. There is political war in many other countries as well. They have never done this to the Macedonians, to the Macedonians, to go there and say "look, they should not be allowed there in any way because it is a horror", they have not done this, but we have nothing to do with this. We have nothing to do with some wicked people who have no idea what they are dealing with, that is, what they are trying to damage, they are trying to damage a moment where fate, history is smiling on Albanians that has never smiled on them, to be honest. It is something magnificent and it is the most extraordinary thing that we can do for our children. While the opposite is the most dramatic thing, I am not saying tragic that life goes on, but more dramatic that we cannot make it because if that door closes, it will take years for it to open again. Awareness of this is very important for what we have in our daily lives with people in cafes, with people at work, with people on the street. It is very important. It changes everything ,” he said.
