'SPAK works on a wide front', ex-president Topi: The opposition should

Former President Bamir Topi has analyzed the latest political developments, also talking about SPAK and the accusations brought against the Municipality of Tirana recently. He said that SPAk is working with a broad front affecting the central, local government and the opposition and leaving no room for prejudice for selectivity.

Former president Topi added that the Special Prosecutor's Office is not working quietly because it is under pressure from politics, but according to him there is also a positive pressure from the public who is looking for it.

"The institution of SPAK is working on a broad front, so it leaves no room for prejudice for selectivity. From the central government to the local government, to the opposition, they are all affected, from this point of view, I believe that it is in its own mission where there are data, indications, reports, SPAK is in its mission.

The Germans have a golden word, when they have no evidence to the contrary, they have no right to contradict it. When SPAK takes the case, if it was a rational policy, there was trust in SPAK, which is the first link, then there is the court. But when at the first moment there are calls to SPAK, they jump into political debates, everyone has the right to respond. Each person and institution is in its own position.

SPAK is not working quietly because they are under pressure from politics. There is also positive pressure from the demanding public, but I say that it is a new institution and the issues it has are endless. There is a large load and knowing some individuals I judge that they are people of integrity. I believe that Duman is on the line of his integrity, which does not appear one day when you are the head of an important institution. I appreciate these people because over time the pressure on them increases", said Topi.

As for the reactions from Mayor Veliaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding the arrests of SPAK in the capital city hall, the former President said that there is a political synergy between them.

He emphasized that at the first moment after SPAK's calls, there are political debates, everyone has the right to respond.

"The fact that Veliaj is in his third term, just like Rama, shows that there is political synergy between them. In politics, you cannot appoint a representative if you are not sure, so Veliaj was indispensable for Rama. Are there arguments between them, there are also arguments within the family, moreover in politics. I presume the history of the debates, but when you look at the recent times together, the opposition should not keep their hopes on this crisis. They have their own problems. A majority with so many scandals, we need to see a reaction, but the opposition gets more and more congealed. This is a paradox that we don't see anywhere," he said, among other things, in an interview with News 24.
