The deputy of the Democratic Party, Jorida Tabaku, through a post on social networks, spoke about pensioners, where she stated that today in Albania, 700,000 pensioners depend on pensions, and that according to the democratic deputy, they can be called more alms than a pension right for their work in the service of the country.
Tabaku emphasized that the ratio of pensioners to the total population is 30%, calling it one of the highest ratios in the region. This, according to the DP deputy, is another reason why we should pay attention to the pension scheme.
Tabaku said that the pension reform in 2015 was a failed scheme that does not offer a life with dignity to this category.
"Albania today has the highest rate of pensioners as a percentage of the population, 30%. Today, 700,000 pensioners depend on pensions, on handouts provided by the government. The last increase, which was not even an indexation, 25 Lek per day, clearly shows that the pension scheme has failed to offer a dignified life to 700,000 pensioners", said Tabaku.
The DP MP emphasized that the economic model chosen by the government is one of the main reasons for this situation. According to her, the current economic model is not creating the necessary basis to support a stable and healthy pension scheme.
"An economic model which, if it is healthy, offers a healthy pension. If it is good and stable, it certainly provides a healthy retirement. But since today the salary increase is done by remote control and not according to the needs of the market and business, today the pension reform is in a big question mark", said Tabaku.
Tabaku said that a deep reform of the pension system is needed, based on an economic model that promotes growth and helps business create more jobs.
