Without the majority's reflection, the Democrats will not sit at the Territorial Reform table. The Vice President of the Democratic Party, Luciano Boçi, who is also co-chair of the Special Commission for Territorial Reform, claims in an interview that the continuation of the work in this commission should be done after Edi Rama leaves as prime minister and the country is led by a technical government.
According to Boçi, the political climate is not right for reforms, accusing the majority of having blocked all spaces for the opposition.
" It will have to translate into the departure of this government, the creation of a transitional government that, among other things, implements the Territorial Reform. There must also be reflection in Parliament, the opposition must have its rights, it must have the right to investigative committees, to motions with debate, to interpellations with the Prime Minister who does not come, with the Deputy Prime Minister who has been caught in corruption. Moreover, the political consensus must also be respected ," Boçi told A2 CNN.
But if the conditions are met to sit at the table, the Democrats seem to have their proposals ready.
" We are asking for an increase in the number, because we are faced with a large number that existed but that provided service to the last citizen and we are now in a reduction but it has emptied Albania... ", said Boçi.
He calls the 2015 reform a failure, as according to him the map is an electoral division and not an administrative one.
For the DP deputy leader, municipalities should have more powers, as this is also a request from the European Union.
" The division must be logical. With the aim of preserving local autonomy and preserving competencies. This is the biggest criticism from the EU ," said Boçi.
