Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali met today with Vlora merchants, who have been protesting for days against the municipality's decision to relocate them from the Industrial Market area, to pave the way for its reconstruction.
During the meeting, Spiropali admitted that he had not been fully aware of the situation and promised to talk to the mayor and members of the Municipal Council to better understand the problems of the merchants.
"I will speak with the mayor and the members of the municipal council to learn more specifically about your problem," she said.
Traders are protesting because they do not agree with the municipality's decision to establish two temporary markets: a fruit and vegetable market in the "24 Maji" neighborhood and a market for other goods in the Çola industrial zone. They are demanding that the market be relocated to areas closer to the city, so as not to lose customers and avoid the risk of bankruptcy.
The situation remains tense, as traders warn of further protests until a solution acceptable to all parties is found.
