For five consecutive elections, the DP in the South has produced only one mandate, that of Tritan Shehu. The electoral data of May 11, 2025 show a sharp decline in support, a boycott of the Democrats and a massive rejection of a worn-out figure, imposed from above and linked to political bargains that have deliberately damaged the DP's result in the region.
For 20 years, for the DP in the South zone, which includes the districts of Gjirokastër, Tepelena and Përmet, Sali Berisha has arbitrarily appointed Tritan Shehu as political leader, the man who has destroyed the structures of this party in that area.
In five consecutive elections, the DP in the South has only received one mandate as an MP, the permanent Tritan Shehu, placed first on the list by Sali Berisha, although the Democrats and supporters of this party have rightly rejected him.
Sali Berisha knows that Tritan Shehu is hated by the Democrats and their supporters, who even in the May 11, 2025 elections asked him to remove him as the political leader of the district and not to place him on the list of candidates for MP in Gjirokastra at all.
Because, in every election, in exchange for personal benefits, Tritan Shehu has bargained with the leaders of the SP in the center, with the political leader of the district, Mirela Kumbaro, with criminals and businessmen who sponsor the SP, as well as with the Socialist MPs and candidates in the municipalities, in order for the DP to lose.
But even if Tritan Shehu had not bargained with them, he is not wanted by the Democrats, because he is a morally "burnt card", hated within the structures of the Regional DP and by the residents of Gjirokastra, Lazarat, Libohova, Tepelena, Memaliaj, Përmet and Këlcyra.
The balance of hatred for Tritan Shehu in the South
The figure of Tritan Shehu not only does not add votes in the South, but, by taking over the DP, has reduced its votes in every election, causing massive departures of Democrats from the party, with the aim of reorganizing it without this bargain hunter.
This is evidenced by the fact that 1,850 party members, equivalent to 15 percent of them, participated in the DP primaries for parliamentary candidates, a massive reaction against the takeover of the party by Tritan Shehu and the hatred for him.
Meanwhile, in the parliamentary elections of May 11, 2025, the "DP-Alliance for a Greater Albania" coalition in the Gjirokastra District received 11,443 votes, equal to 29.4 percent of the district's votes, but these were also personally secured by the other three candidates.
Most Democrats refused to go to the polls with the worn-out face of Tritan Shehu, placed on the list arbitrarily closed by his peer Sali Berisha.
Because it is a humiliation for the democrats of Gjirokastra, Lazarat, Libohova, Tepelena, Memaliaj, Përmet and Këlcyra to have, for 35 years, an imposed political leader and MP, Tritan Shehu, who, through this position, has accumulated a sheikh's wealth even during his 12 years in opposition.
While in the areas of Gjirokastra District there are many young intellectuals, members of the DP and its active supporters, with a clean image and massive support from the residents, it is absurd that Tritan Shehu should be the political leader and lifelong MP./ Pamphlet
