The head of the Nisma Thurrje, Endri Shabani, commented on recent developments within the "Nisma Albania Bëhet" coalition regarding the mandate won by Adriatik Lapaj in Tirana.
Shabani said in a television interview that one of the candidates on the closed list, who is also his relative, was upset with Adriatik Lapaj and requested from the CEC recognition of the signed resignation letter for the candidates on the closed list.
According to Shabani, the candidate in question, Zeqir Kordhoni, was nominated on an open list by Nisma Thurrje, but "Shqipëria Bëhet" placed him on a closed list because it replaced him with a woman for the gender quota.
" In the agreement we agreed on March 1, especially in Tirana, that the closed list would be guaranteed by both parties. So, each party should submit their own lists for those who are fictitious candidates. We requested that the second, fifth and 12th be from Nisma Thurrje. There was a technicality there, the lists were submitted on Wednesday. We as Nisma had 40 candidates, we sent the names to "Albania Becomes" because they had to sign them, because they had the right to submit the lists as the leading party of the coalition.
Zeqiri is an activist of Nisma, he has organized meetings in these elections, distributed leaflets and has been an activist. He wanted to run on the open list. How he ended up on the closed list I asked my staff for a file of Zeqiri's application and who was behind it. We did not put him on the closed list, we put him on the open list. Because there were many women on the closed list, the staff of "Albania Becomes" removed Zeqiri and put him on the closed list. But we did not put him on the closed list. The staff of "Albania Becomes" wanted a man and they put him on the closed list ", said Shabani.
Shabani said that tensions within the coalition arose after Adriatik Lapaj's statement that he would leave his mandate if the coalition secured only one seat in parliament in the elections. He points out that Zeqir Kordhoni, after getting upset with Lapaj for not keeping his word, took up the request with the CEC.
However, Shabani adds that the position of the Thurrje Initiative is that the resignations of the closed list be recognized as soon as possible by the CEC and the mandate be passed to the candidate with the most votes on the open list, which is Adriatik Lapaj.
"Adriatiku has said that if he is going to get a coalition mandate, then the mandate will not be given to him, but to the one who received the most votes after him. This has created tension among activists. I understand that "Albania Is Made" has also created tension. There has been tension with Nisma Thurrje because it seemed that we were keeping our word about the resignations, but he is withdrawing from his own statement. This has created this tension with Zeqiri. Zeqiri has no claims, the first one is at the bottom of the list.
The mandate today is held by Ana Dajko from the closed list from "Albania Becomes". The candidates have confirmed their resignations. Yesterday I asked the CEC to recognize the resignations and not delay the process. The CEC to switch to the open list and give the mandate to Adriatik Lapaj. This is our position.
"I spoke to Zeqiri on the phone and he said: 'I am a man and not a politician. Let me understand that you politicians say and change things, men, when they give their word, they keep it,'" he said.
