Edi Rama does not waste a single minute regarding Erion Veliaj. After instructing his dismissal as Mayor and formalizing the process in less than 48 hours, the Prime Minister has notified the CEC about the vacancy created in the Municipality of Tirana. In this way, Babloku demands elections in the Municipality of Tirana at all costs, even without waiting for Erion Veliaj's appeal procedures in the Constitutional Court.
The dismissed mayor appealed to the Constitutional Court, describing the process as unconstitutional and unlegal, while the Constitutional Court urgently appointed a rapporteur for the case.
It seems that the entire process related to Erion Veliaj is moving at breakneck speed, where everything seems carefully directed and in complete sync with Edi Rama's movements.
This is how the process began and it seems that this is how it is ending. Rama, at the SP Assembly, which he convened to introduce the new ministers on September 11, instructed the dismissal of Erion Veliaj, while he rushed to appoint Ogerta Manastirliu as the SP candidate for mayor.
Then there were intense movements by Rama towards the socialist municipal councilors, who lined them up to sign the request and then vote to dismiss Veliaj as Mayor.
Without wasting time, Rama convened the government and approved the dismissal decision, while also hastening to notify the CEC of the vacancy.
The government has notified the CEC of the September 25 decision to dismiss Erion Veliaj from the position of mayor of Tirana.
The document was filed with the CEC on September 25, the day the dismissal was decided, but it is being made public today just a few hours after Veliaj appealed the dismissal decision to the Constitutional Court.
"At the meeting of the Council of Ministers, dated 25.09.2025, we inform you that decision no. 539, dated 25.9.2025, of the Council of Ministers, "On the dismissal from office of the Mayor of Tirana, Mr. Erion Veliaj", is stated in the letter signed by the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, Engjëll Agaçi.
It is not known whether, after this letter, the CEC will continue the procedures quickly, as Edi Rama did, or will wait to see what the Constitutional Court decides.
