Socialist MPs rejected during the plenary session the request submitted by the opposition to remove the item on the election of the Ombudsman from the Parliament's agenda.
With 77 votes against by the socialist deputies and 30 in favor by the opposition, the Assembly decided to reject the DP's request, while the names of the candidates for Ombudsman will be subject to voting in today's session. The voting will be secret for each of the names presented as a candidate for Ombudsman.
In the race for People's Advocate are Adriana Kalaja, Besim Ndregjoni, Endri Shabani, Aranita Brahaj, Tartaj Bazaj and Skënder Halucaj.
The Democratic Party has declared the withdrawal of signatures for candidates who were officially presented to the Assembly as opposition candidates, while the Socialists had declared that the proposals were left to the opposition.
It seems that the entire debate is focused on the name of Endri Shabani, supported by signatures from the opposition, and considered by the latter as a name supported by Edi Rama.
Sali Berisha, in his speech in the Assembly, even called him "Surrel's rabbit", but Taulant Balla, head of the PS Parliamentary Group, said that when talking about rabbits, we should also talk about greyhounds. In this context, Balla read the names of the DP deputies who had signed and supported Shabani's candidacy.
The opposition is expected to boycott the voting process for the Ombudsman, as the only way to hope that the names that will go through the vote will not manage to secure 84 votes, while the Socialists have 83 mandates. But considering the possible absences during the session, this number could be reduced.
