Disagreements with the United States of America only have to do with tactics and operations, but not with values or strategic goals, stated the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, in one of the discussions held in the United States.
He reiterated that the differences are particularly related to Serbia and the illegal structures it maintains in Kosovo. But this claim was rejected a day earlier by the US Embassy in Pristina, which said that the decision to suspend the planned strategic dialogue with Kosovo is related to the actions of the incumbent government.
On the other hand, the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, during a discussion organized by the Hudson Institute, said that Kosovo's cooperation with the United States of America (USA) is increasing.
There, Kurti did not talk about the suspension that official Washington has made of the planned Strategic Dialogue with Kosovo, under the justification that the incumbent government has taken actions that increase tensions and instability in the region. He said that the differences with the US are related only to tactics and operations.
"Our partnership is built on three pillars: diplomacy, defense and development. In diplomacy, we occasionally face differences, especially regarding Serbia and the illegal structures it maintains in Kosovo. But these differences have to do with tactics and operations, not with values or strategic goals. On these issues we are completely on the same page. In development, progress is just as important ," Kurti said.
He mentioned the partnership with the US while talking about the sanctions that Kosovo has imposed on Russia due to its aggression on Ukraine.
" We impose sanctions when necessary, support Ukraine, strengthen our defense, and build sustainable development. Differences with Washington may arise on tactical issues, but on strategy and values, we are on the same page. The direction is clear: Kosovo and the United States are united in interests and are progressing together towards common goals ," Kurti declared.
A day earlier, the United States rejected Kurti's claim that Kosovo is being asked to take action because of Serbia. A spokesperson for the US Embassy in Pristina told ' KHOHA ' on Tuesday that the decision to suspend the Strategic Dialogue is based entirely on the actions of the acting government of Kosovo. The spokesperson said that any suggestion that this is related to Serbia or other external actors is incorrect and an attempt to divert attention from the core issues.
The US Embassy has reiterated that a partner is needed that understands the need to avoid destabilizing actions and that is committed to advancing regional stability and protecting the rights of all citizens of Kosovo.
