The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) stated that US forces have struck the Darkhov nuclear power plant site in Khuzestan province, southwest Iran, with several missiles.
According to Iranian media, the attack occurred at around 03:39 local time. Iranian authorities condemned the attack, but did not immediately provide information about casualties or damage to the facility.
The Darkhovin nuclear power plant is still under construction. Work on the project began in 2022 and is considered one of the most important projects in Iran's civilian nuclear program.
Meanwhile, in Jordan, the government dismissed warnings of danger in the coastal city of Aqaba, after the US Embassy in Amman urged American citizens to avoid the airport and seaport due to a "specific and credible threat."
Jordanian government spokesman Mohammad Al-Momani said that Aqaba's airport and port continue to operate normally and that authorities have not issued any evacuation orders.
"According to the relevant Jordanian authorities, no potential threat has been recorded in the last few hours," Al-Momani said.
The developments come at a time of high tensions in the Middle East, amid the escalation of the military clash between the US and Iran.
