The former commander of the Kosovo Security Force, Kadri Kastrati, emphasizes that the situation in the north of the country is serious.
According to him, the Kosovo Police should not back down until the arrest of all the Serbs who participated in the attacks on KFOR members.
In an interview for the Kosovar media, General Kastrati emphasizes that considering the presence of peacekeeping troops, no escalation of the situation is expected after today's action.
"The situation in the north is quite tense, it was last Monday, a week or so ago it was very critical because according to some information that came out, the Serbs were also prepared to kill Kosovo policemen and KFOR had this information and therefore came to the front line, when more than 30 members of KFOR were injured. For this reason, because KFOR in extraordinary situations also has a mission to be the first responder, to be primarily responsible for maintaining order and peace throughout the territory of Kosovo, especially in the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is a very serious situation, the Kosovo Police must not back down at any moment, to arrest all those who have been identified as having participated in the attack that Monday", says Kastrati .
Furthermore, he adds that Serbs in the north are resisting the actions of the Police in order to protect criminals.
"Every time we have seen in the past that every time the Kosovo Police have tried to extend the law throughout the territory of Kosovo, and especially in that part, they have encountered resistance. They come out and defend, because the criminal protects the criminal. And all these criminals have lived like in 'father's house', they have smuggled, they have dealt with all those things that are not legal to get rich and normally that comfort is broken for them and they have resisted every time. They are supported by President Vučić himself in Belgrade and by the political structures of Serbia and are protected. I have information that people from BIA and ex-police who have extraordinary experience in the wars of the former Yugoslavia were implicated here, we have two people in prison, one was in the war in Koshare, one was a Serb Slovenia, adds Kastrati.
According to him, there will be no escalation of the situation in the northern municipalities, due to the presence of peacekeeping troops.
"I think there will be no escalation, this is temporary, for the moment, a criminal has been arrested there. KFOR has taken it very seriously, it has brought 500 troops of Turkey's elite units, units with exceptional experience, especially in wars and urban conflicts. They will be stationed there and a reserve battalion is on standby that can come whenever required," he concludes. He asks the institutions that the actions are coordinated with KFOR and other international partners.
We remind you that today, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has announced that the Kosovo Police has arrested one of the organizers of the attacks against KFOR members in the north, Milun Milenkovic-Llune. Three police officers were injured during the arrest.
