Arrests for state reserves, Kurti reacts: There was no corruption

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that 97 percent of the value purchased last year of state reserves have reached Kosovo.

Through a video published on Facebook, Kurti spoke about the arrest of two officials of the Ministry of Industry, Enterprise and Trade (MINT) and a businessman, suspected of misuse of state reserves.

"There is no corruption or misuse. I have complete faith in the Minister [of Industry] Rozeta Hajdari and in her work. After the war in Ukraine, when there was a global crisis, the ministry that she leads bought the reserves and filled the warehouses at a time when all the borders were closed and almost all the countries had banned exports," said Kurti.

Prime Minister Kurti said that state reserves were 300,000 euros when he took office two years ago and now, according to him, they are 25 million euros.

Earlier on August 18, the judicial authorities raided the MINT and the three arrested were ordered to be detained for 48 hours.

The action of law enforcement authorities in MINT comes after the publication of several audio recordings from the National portal, where the officials of this ministry claim that the oil contracted and paid for in Poland for the state reserves of Kosovo never arrived. According to the audio recordings, the same thing happened with the grain reserves.

According to MINT, the offices of two senior officials of this ministry were arrested and searched: the director of the department of state reserves, Hafiz Gara, and the director of the department for European integration, Irfan Lipovica.

According to local media reports in Kosovo, the third person arrested is Ridvan Muharremi.

Minister Hajdari, during a press conference held on the afternoon of August 18, said that Hajdari has no doubts about the officials who were detained today, while adding that he sees no reason to resign.

According to the law, the state reserves of goods are created to intervene operatively for the protection of the population, the economy in case of market disorder, the protection of the country in situations of emergency, state of civil emergency and many other similar cases.

The state reserves of goods are provided on the basis of the medium-term strategic plan, and they are administered by the Department of state reserves of goods, within the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Enterprise. State reserves are considered a state secret./REL
