A new European proposal for advancing the implementation of the Agreement on the 'Road to Normalization' is already on the table of Kosovo and Serbia.
What was urgently requested of Kosovo was the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority.
However, the content provided to the parties remains confidential.
Related to the establishment of this Association, yesterday (Sunday), the former prime minister of Kosovo, Avdullah Hoti, in a post on Facebook, shared the article of the American medium "Fox News", which states that the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during his last visit to Kosovo and Serbia, demanded 'de facto' recognition and autonomy for the Serbs.
Referring to this article, Hoti asked President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti to clarify whether this is true or not.
"Here's what Kurti-Osmani agreed on at the beginning of this year. If it is not true what Mrs. Ursula von der Leyen, the Prime Minister and the President should immediately deny it," wrote Hoti.
But such a thing was denied by the Government of Kosovo.
The spokesperson of the Government, Përparim Kryeziu, has said that Kosovo has neither accepted nor agreed to any autonomy.
"We have shown our readiness for maximum respect of the rights of every member of the communities, according to the standards of the Council of Europe", said Kryeziu on RTK.
He said that it is unclear whether the news in the American medium refers to a direct quote from the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, or it is the medium's own interpretation of President Leyen's statements.
"What we want to emphasize is that Kosovo has neither accepted nor agreed to any autonomy. We have shown our readiness for maximum respect of the rights of every member of the communities, according to the standards of the Council of Europe, where our Republic will join; but never autonomy, defunctionalization, fragmentation, or anything else that the Constitution of the Republic does not allow?, said Kryeziu.
But what does the Fox News article say?
Serbia and Kosovo's ambitions to join the EU could be in serious jeopardy if the two historic rivals refuse to normalize relations.
This is how the article of the American medium "Fox News" begins, which goes on to say that the president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, said that Serbia should de facto recognize Kosovo and Kosovo should allow autonomy for the ethnic Serbs in the north of Kosovo.
"Declarations from such a high political representative carry weight, however, we have yet to see if they will make a difference."
This is what Digital Helena Ivanov, associate at the Henry Jackson Society, told Fox News.
"Until now, the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has been very clear that the Association of Serbian Municipalities is not really at the table, and Serbia was clear that membership in the UN is a red line for Kosovo. How exactly the EU plans to pressure both sides to cross their respective lines remains unclear," Ivanov added.
