After the meeting in Brussels between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, the EU's efforts to ease tensions between Serbia and Kosovo have failed again, so writes the German newspaper Bild in an article dedicated to tensions in the Balkans.
The article states that the failure of these negotiations poses a risk to peace in the region. Jakov Devcic, the head of the external office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Belgrade, when asked by Bild about this issue, said that this risk could be seen in the coming months.
The article also quotes the words of Borrell, who during the meeting regarding the hot tensions in the north of Kosovo between the Albanians and the Serbs of Kosovo, he explained that there is no progress in this area either.

The EU's efforts to ease the tensions between the Balkan countries, Serbia and Kosovo, have failed again.
During several hours of mediation talks in Brussels last week, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti did not accept a proposal for the necessary de-escalation, EU Foreign Affairs Representative Josep Borrell explained after the negotiations in Brussels were exhausted.
One thing is clear: Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, on the other hand, would have supported him.
After the blockade of Kurti, there was a clear rebuke from Brussels towards Pristina! The EU accuses Kosovo of obstructing the normalization of relations with Serbia.
Plain text from EU Foreign Affairs Representative Borrell last Thursday: "It was not possible to overcome the differences." The EU passes the debt to Kurt. The Prime Minister of Kosovo is not prepared to give municipalities with a Serbian majority an umbrella organization and more autonomy.
Kurti insisted that before granting more autonomy to the Serbian communities in Kosovo, Serbia must recognize Kosovo as a sovereign state, Borrell said.
The head of the government of Kosovo responded immediately and even accused the EU of being one-sided. It has accepted Serbia's position. Meanwhile, Vucic asked for the talks to continue.
"We have to talk and find a way forward." Borrell warned both sides that a delay in the rapprochement would prevent the desired accession to the EU: "Without normalization, there will be no European future for either Kosovo or Serbia."
How dangerous is the failure of talks?
Jakov Devcic, the head of the external office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Belgrade, when asked by Bild about this issue, said that this risk could be seen in the coming months.
"There is a risk of further tension and violence in the coming months of this vacuum. In my opinion, Kurti and Vucic are rational actors who are aware of their national and personal interests. It does not benefit both of them if there are excesses of violence between the Serbs and Albanians of Kosovo or if they withdraw from the dialogue process".
According to him, "the window for normalization will close soon, because the European elections in June and the presidential elections in the USA in October 2024 will bind the West. Until then, we must calm down the current acute situation in the north of Kosovo".
Until then, the situation in the North of Kosovo will have to calm down, as a failure in Europe cannot be accepted.
