Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama sided with Serbia in the conflict with Kosovo over municipalities in the North during a media conference held on Thursday in Tirana.
"It is incomprehensible the reason for the reluctance of the Kosovo authorities to de-escalate a situation that clearly every day and every hour is a great loss for Kosovo," he said, adding that "Serbia is doing what it has done other times, while Kosovo is doing something it has never done before".
According to the Albanian Prime Minister, Kosovo is being blamed globally for its attitude towards the situation, warning of sanctions by international allies against it.
Rama, who just two days ago had one of his close associates arrested on charges of abuse of office, vetoed a resolution, which he described as a draft for the association of municipalities in the North of Kosovo, which are inhabited by a majority of Serbs.
"Yesterday I forwarded to Scholz and Macron a draft of the Association, about which I also informed Charles Michel and the American side" - announced Rama without giving details about the content of the draft, which according to him was prepared by American experts if you will for such a case to arise between the two states.
"In this case, the position of Kosovo and not Serbia is incomprehensible, since the parties are no longer agreeing on who should write this text, and no longer agreeing on what the text should contain" - insisted Rama in his position.
He admitted that he did not consult the draft with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, stressing that "it is not Kurti's fate at stake today, but the Republic of Kosovo's".
Rama's statement brought the immediate reaction of the former prime minister Sali Berisha, who today leads a part of the opposition, who considered his position as interference in the internal affairs of Kosovo.
"This act constitutes flagrant interference in the internal affairs of Kosovo, on behalf of Belgrade, the ugliest act in the history of the relations between the two countries, which incites and does not calm the conflict," he said in a statement to the media on Thursday, labeling Rama as "Vucic's argot"./BIRN
