The US State Department has given an ultimatum to Serbia to immediately release the 3 Kosovar police officers kidnapped at the border. Unlike the EU, which has maintained a very neutral stance, the US has been direct.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller has stated that Kosovo and Serbia must take immediate steps to de-escalate tensions, which includes the unconditional release of three Kosovo policemen detained by Serbia.
" This includes the unconditional release of the three recently detained Kosovo police officers. We believe that both sides must follow the three-point plan that has been outlined by the EU without delay. As part of this, as we have spoken before, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and his government must ensure that elected presidents carry out their interim duties from alternative locations and withdraw police forces. We continue to condemn the unacceptable violence against NATO-led troops, law enforcement and journalists. I want to add that we continue to be directly engaged with both parties and our partners in the region. Secretary Antony Blinken has had conversations with partners in the region on this matter," DASH spokesperson Matthew Miller stated." the DASH spokesperson told reporters.
