Vetëvendosje MP Albulena Haxhiu has reacted after yet another failure to be elected speaker of the Kosovo Assembly.
In her statement, she said that she has no intention of backing down, despite the obstacles she is facing, but instead appeared defiant, emphasizing that the lack of political will to constitute the Assembly is inevitably pushing the country towards new elections.
"It seems that there is a lack of will to constitute the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, but we are very willing to wait for the political parties, to talk to them about the date of the elections. If they refuse to constitute the Assembly, then it is clear that the country must go. The Constitution stipulates that there must be 61 votes for the Speaker of the Assembly, the same applies to the Deputy Speakers of the Assembly. According to this logic, if they refuse to vote for the proposal of the Vetëvendosje Movement, then where will they get the 61 votes to vote for the Deputy Speaker", she said.
Haxhiu added that Vetëvendosje is open to dialogue with other parties regarding setting a date for the elections.
She failed today for the fourth time to be elected Speaker of the Assembly with 57 votes in favor, 48 against and 3 abstentions, while 61 votes were needed for her election.
