Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Lajcak warns of developments: Now is the time to refocus

The representative of the EU for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, warns of full refocusing and future steps in the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade.

He did not give further details, but added that the parties with the help of the EU will have to use the momentum, which will not last forever, to advance the agreements.

He added that the EU has some anticipated expectations on the Western Balkans which must be fulfilled as soon as possible

" Greetings from snowy and sunny Brussels, where I am back after a busy week in Davos, Switzerland. As tradition dictates, the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum marks the beginning of the diplomatic year, bringing together leaders from government, business and civil society around the world to engage in discussions on the most pressing challenges facing our societies.

This year's forum centered around the theme of rebuilding trust. During the traditional Dialogue of Diplomacy in the Western Balkans, we discussed the expectations and priorities in the region and in the European Union regarding enlargement. Serving as co-moderator, I shared my observation that while there is obvious enthusiasm from the Eastern partners, it is met with skepticism from the Western Balkans. The current momentum for expansion is real, but as we well know, in politics, momentum never lasts forever. Therefore, the main question now is whether we will be able to transform this momentum into a new quality of expansion or whether it will be lost altogether.

As always, Davos proved an invaluable platform to connect with friends, colleagues, partners and leaders from the region and beyond. Our discussions covered a spectrum of important developments anticipated this year, both within the Western Balkans and on the global stage. But after a fascinating week immersed in different perspectives within the global "bubbles" of minds, now is the time to fully refocus on the next steps in the Dialogue ", writes Lajçak.
