
The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, while participating in an event in Pristina, condemned the murder in Peja, stressing that everyone has a duty to protect women and girls.
Osmani said that this femicide has unfortunately reached extraordinary proportions and must be stopped at all costs. She added that the only way to stop it is if we all reawaken as a society, as a state, and as a nation.
"Unfortunately, today we all woke up in the morning with the terrible news of the murder of a woman by her husband. This terrible phenomenon that is hurting our society and our country, this femicide which unfortunately has reached extraordinary proportions, must be stopped at all costs. And the only way to stop it is if we all reawaken as a society, as a state, and as a nation. We wake up again standing against this phenomenon because we don't have the lives of girls and women to lose", said Osmani.
Today it was reported that a woman was allegedly shot dead by her husband in their apartment in Peja, Kosovo. The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Peja, Shkodran Nikqi. He said that the suspect was arrested and his weapon was seized. Meanwhile, the media in Kosovo inform that the suspected author of the drive is Edmond Lajqi.
This is the second case in the last five days of killing women in Kosovo. On April 12, a 21-year-old woman was killed inside the office of the Center for Social Work in Ferizaj. The media reported that the killer was her ex-husband. According to statistics, since 2010, 57 women have been killed in Kosovo.
