Kosovo authorities have today found mortal remains suspected of belonging to a person who went missing during the 1998-1999 Kosovo war, during excavations in an area in Rahovec.
According to the Government Commission for Missing Persons, the remains were found and exhumed during excavations in Përzhina, Rahovec, on Friday afternoon. These are the third consecutive days of excavations in the area, about 60 kilometers from Pristina.
Over the past three days, authorities have found a total of two human remains, as well as two bone fragments. All remains have been sent for examination to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, in accordance with legal procedures and forensic standards.
The Commission notes that the exhumed remains may belong to victims who are still on the List of Missing Persons. Recently, the authorities have been conducting ongoing excavations at various sites where it is suspected that persons may have disappeared during the war.
We recall that during the 1998-1999 war, around 13,000 people lost their lives, while over 1,500 people remain missing.
