The recognition of Kosovo by the Bahamas, as the 121st state in the world, has caused harsh and nervous reactions in Belgrade, once again highlighting Serbia's diplomatic panic whenever Pristina's list of recognitions expands.
The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it "strongly condemns" the decision of the Bahamian authorities, describing it as a "dangerous precedent" that, according to Belgrade, undermines the international order and the principle of territorial integrity of UN member states.
In the official statement, Serbian diplomacy goes even further, warning of "destabilization, anarchy and collapse of the international system", attributing these consequences to the recognition of Kosovo's independence - a narrative repeated for years by Belgrade, but increasingly less convincing in the international arena.
Serbia calls the Bahamas' decision "particularly unconstructive," claiming that it harms the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. In fact, the reaction shows that any new recognition of Kosovo is seen by Serbia not as a diplomatic reality, but as a direct blow to its blocking strategy.
In Pristina, meanwhile, the recognition by the Bahamas is seen as yet another confirmation that the recognition process has not stopped, despite aggressive lobbying by Serbia and its allies. For Belgrade, however, every new state that recognizes Kosovo is further proof that the diplomatic battle is being lost, and the increasingly dramatic reactions are the clearest sign of this defeat.
